An Original Aurora Tub Track Retro Fit!
Hey guys, It was a wild and wooley nite at the Dunlap Motorplex last nite 6/17/05. The highlight was the appearance of two of the original Inland Empire group from Scott's early days as race host that occurred prior to the fray or Rock Island days. We got to race and rub shoulders again with Ron Charteau (Ronstock) and Alan Gonick (Algon Racing). After a few laps to get dialed into the newly railed and routed tubby, we began the qualifying with fraystyle cars. It was a small field of just eight. Alan surprised everyone with a TQ just .01 second faster than Michael with his Dunlap Motorplex prepared fray car. Once the first round started, it was obvious who came to run. The Hurtado horsepower appeared to have a slight advantage in handling all night long. After the first round Michael finished first with dear old dad running second with 77 and 76 laps respectively. The Lane Master system brought it down to a four man final. Again, Hurtado horsepower and handling was superior as father and son kicked it up a notch and ran 79 and 78 laps, with Michael just half the straightaway from turning 80 laps in the 2 minute heats. A good time appeared to be had by all. Jeremy was at the helm again on the timing and scoring system. All in all the nite was mindful of the time when the winner wasn't necessarily pre-determined and anyone could win on a given night. I can't wait to get together against all of you at Scott Ellis' place and then 3 weeks later here at Inland Empire HO Raceway. Keep it in the slot as long as you can. Later --Mic
